Ideally located on the Vieux-Port, Savonnerie
de la Licorne’s Soap Museum welcomes you at the heart
of a historic site and within, the old galley arsenal built by Louis xiv.
Of the 4 Savonnerie de la Licorne shops in Marseille, the one next door the Soap Museum is the largest, set out over two floors with hundreds of craft soap products made by our Master Soapmaker Serge Bruna.
At its entrance, a traditional “pointu” Marseillais barge sets the decorative tone. We are at the heart of the Vieux-Port with its multitude of masts and boats.
The site of the shop dates back to the 17th century when it was part of the Louis XIV’s arsenal. Until 1748, this was where the Royal Fleet was moored and also where galleymen and hard labour convicts were housed.
Come and discover our shop on two floors, with on the ground level our entire signature Marseille Soap range, as well as our essential oils, accessories, boxes, containers and a wide selection of beauty products and selected gift ideas made by local artisans.
Upstairs set around a giant, golden Marseille soap, discover superb models of ships and a whole world of objects and nautical themed gift ideas.
Next door the shop, experience our unique Soap Museum to find out all about the history of soap and soapmaking from prehistory to the present day via frescoes, artworks, documents, objects and rare pieces. Our interactive museum has its own “sense of smell space” and museum visits include soapmaking demonstration workshops, where you can customize your very own soap to take away as a souvenir.
