The historic district of Marseille on the Vieux-Port at the
foot of Fort Saint Jean just by the Mucem is the location of
one of Savonnerie de la Licorne’s four shops, established
by master soapmaker Serge Bruna and his wife Laurence.
This Savonnerie de la Licorne shop is located at the foot of the superb Fort Saint-Jean, which owes its name to the Knights Templar of St John of Jerusalem established on this narrow bank of land towards the end of the 12th century.
In the middle of the 15th century, the imposing square tower was built by King René to guard the entrance into the harbor.
By order of Louis XIV, the construction of the fort was carried out between 1668 and 1671 by the Chevalier de Clerville. After housing the Department of Underwater Archaeological Research, from 2013 the Fort Saint-Jean became the site of the Mucem.
Visit our shop to discover genuine Marseille Soap products, all made on-site at the Savonnerie de la Licorne workshop on the Cours Julien in Marseille, as well as our range of soap and beauty products made by local artisans.
